Financial Literacy is a very broad topic itself and has got six modules which are standardized in all developing countries in the world. In most advanced countries, they also do have financial literacy courses but are more advanced depending on the performance of their economy.
In PNG, We have six distinct modules which are recommended by BPNG through CEFI to be thought to all Papua New Guineans. The Topics that should be covered in PNG includes and not limited to
1. BUDGETING: USE MONEY WISELY
2. SAVINGS: YOU CAN DO IT
3. DEBT MANAGEMENT: HANDLE WITH CARE
4. BANK SERVICES: KNOW YOUR OPTIONS
5. FINANCIAL NEGOTIATIONS: COMMUNICATE WITH CONFIDENCE
6. MOBILE MONEY: INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE BANKING.
The above topics are then broadened to engage with interested people in financial literacy trainings. The topics are taught depending on type of Audience we are engaged with from millionaires to Grassroots, from working class to students and the business owners from Rural to Urban Areas.
Financial Literacy Must be Taught at all level and that Includes for even our Members of Parliament. Everyone from the Top of the Food Chain in PNG to the last need financial LITERACY. While everyone is thinking financial LITERACY is all about SME BUSINESSES, IT IS NOT.
Financial Literacy is taught to all people who have problems in money management.
1. Government Department officials need it.
2. Company Employees need it.
3. Business man and women needs it
4. Informal Sector Businesses needs too,
5. And Most of all, it must be taught in all schools around the Country.
In the RURAL areas of PNG, the style of Financial Literacy we teach is totally different and while including only two of the above modules, we encourage them, we empower them. The rural areas of our country is blessed with so many natural resources and agricultural products and marine products which are highly valued in the overseas markets. They have them all. THE POTENTIAL THEY HAVE IN MAKING MONEY IS OVERWHELMINGLY EXTREME. WE ONLY POWER THE POTENTIALS THEY HAVE SO THAT THEY CAN CULTIVATE THE RESOURCES THEY HAVE TO MAKE THEIR LIVES BETTER.
Many businesses in the towns and cities, even the educated elites who are currently holding onto the highest offices in our country rose from the arses of remote villages in our country. They are only selfish once they found better lives in the cities and never return to their places to encourage their fellow brothers and sisters to rise up. Hence, we are committed in showing the light to the RURAL population in just pushing them abit to realise their potentials.
While saying that, below is a photo of a magnificent white sandy beach in SALAMAUA in Rural morobe which could be utilized into a tourist hub.
PNG IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, RICH WITH EVERYTHING, NOT JUST OIL AND GAS, GOLD AND COPPER, COFFEE, COPRA OR OIL PALM BUT ALSO ATTRACTIVE SCENICS TO LURE TOURISTS.
LETS NOT ALL DEPEND ON THE GOVERNMENT, THE GOVERNMENT IS US, WE DO SOMETHING OURSELVES AND THE GOVERNMENT CAN STEP IN LATER.
IF THERE IS NO ROAD, USE SPADE TO BUILD YOUR OWN.
IF THEIR IS NO SCHOOL, ENGAGE GRADE 8 AND 6 LEAVERS TO TEACH BASIC ABC OR 123.
ONLY BY THEN SHALL PNG BE ECONOMICALLY INDEPENDENT.
FINANCIAL LITERACY IS NOT JUST FOR DOING BUSINESS. IT IS TO ENCOURAGE AND EMPOWER PEOPLE TO MAKE MONEY OUT OF NOTHING, MAKE PEOPLE USE THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY WISELY! FINALLY WE MOTIVATE PEOPLE TO GO BACK TO THEIR LAND AND MAKE USE IT.
LAZINESS WILL DESTROY US. HARDWORK AND PERSEVERANCE WILL BUILD US..
