Small trade store owners and others in the micro small medium entrepreneurs gathered at city hall on Tuesday for a two-day training.
The training will qualify them to get licenses to do business in Moresby Northeast.
More than 200 trade store owners and mothers in the SME and MSME sectors came for the training to get more skills on how to expand their businesses.
Moresby Northeast district has engaged relevant business houses to help tailor the training and share experiences to assist the SMEs.MP John Kaupa said these companies will partner with the district to help SME mothers and trade stores owners grow their business through sharing of skills and knowledge.
“The training is very important for you MSME mothers and trade store owners.
The business houses you regularly visit are here to assist you and it is up to you to grow and make it happen, not us, we only provide the avenue,” Mr Kaupa said.
He said it is time to legally allow trade stores in all the settlements and suburbs to operate by issuing licenses so that they are regarded as formal businesses and can pay taxes to the government.“The National Capital District cannot stop the businesses but they can assist them by issuing licenses to those that meet the requirements,” he said.
“NCD is the authority which regulates the laws and all businesses have to comply and pay taxes.Mr Kipit said the authority does not stop people from doing business but it is the law that every business must pay tax and also proper Licensing should be issued to them.
“It is now time we must come out formally and legally to do business but for issuing License to sell alcohol is not going to happen but it will properly looked into it.
“The particular business owner who wants to get License to sell alcohol because many deaths and problems affecting the community is all alcohol related,” he said.
