BPNG WARNS BUSINESS HOUSES ON THE USE OF PNG CURRENCY IMAGES ON PRODUCTS

The Bank of Papua New Guinea has warned that the use of the images of PNG's currency banknotes and toea coins on products such as laplaps, meri blouses and shirts is illegal. 

BPNG issued a public notice recently informing the public and business houses in the country, that it is illegal to use the images of PNG currency banknotes and coins on products and advertisements for commercial or other purposes. 

According to BPNG, the Central Banking Act 2000 prohibits the reproduction or imitation of PNG currency notes and coins for any purpose without the consent or approval of BPNG. 

It is an offence and penalty provisions apply. 

BPNG Manager Currency Department David Lakatani told NBC News the fine for such an illegal act is K100,000. 

BPNG has warned producers of such products to immediately stop such practices.
