WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Today I bought a few items from a large trade store in a well-known centre in Boroko. The store was run by expatriates. I checked IPA records and confirmed the owner is an expatriate, and they have been in business as a company around seven years. It seems to be a very large company comprising many sectors so I expect there are more outlets.

No TIN. No GST. No “Tax Invoice” (these are all IRC requirements). And a fully automated Point-Of-Sale system so no reason not to.

I’m not sure how this works, and I’m not sure why so many trade stores don’t follow standard business practices. But we need to be asking why, and what are the impacts on our economy.
