This is yet another milestone for female leadership in Papua New Guinea’s financial sector.
With over 20 years of diverse experience, Wano is set to steer the bank’s branch network toward growth. Wano began her career at ANZ as a Proof Operator, later becoming a Kina Automated Transfer System (KATs) Officer.
Her early roles focused on back-office operations and customer support, fueling her passion for customer service. She then took on human resource positions at ANZ and BSP, honing her expertise in people, culture, and leadership.
Her career expanded into oil and gas, FMCG, and freelance consulting, including strategic support for the Office of the Member for Moresby South.
In 2018, Wano joined Kina Bank, serving as Senior Business Partner and Head of Employee Experience. Her deep banking knowledge and customer focus position her to lead Kina’s branches effectively.
Wano holds a Graduate Certificate in Business from the University of Tasmania and a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial & Organisational Psychology from the University of Papua New Guinea.
Kina Bank’s Executive General Manager – Business and Retail Banking, Rayeleene Elston, praised Wano’s appointment. “We are confident that Akino’s leadership, operational background, and passion for serving customers will drive our branch banking network to new heights,” Elston said.
“Kina Bank is focused on developing local talent in Papua New Guinea to grow into future leaders. By supporting our people and giving them opportunities to strengthen their capabilities, we aim to build a strong team that contributes meaningfully to nation-building.”
Wano assumes her role immediately, tasked with enhancing customer service and operational excellence across Kina’s branch network.
